Hey guys, I kinda stole the idea to post part of the story that I'm writting from Mika (hope you don't mind!!), but I want to hear y'alls opinions on it. And tell me the truth!!
The unusually dark skies that hung over Castroville brought everyone down. The middle school seemed dark, for most of the light that we get comes through the many windows of the school. With the hot Texas sun's light shielded, the cafeteria seemed foreign and strange.
I walked to the table where my friends sat each and every morning. I set my stuff down and was then immersed in their conversations. The time passed quickly and suddenly, the first bell rang, demanding of us to move within the 3 minute passing period time to our 1st period classes.
Nikki was sitting silently in her chair next to my empty one in the Agriculture room. I sat my binder down on the table and she set down her book. My friends and I are always reading. Our lives are basically centered around the extensive collection of books in all our homes. For some strange reason, not one of us is able to stand being within a public library for long. Maybe it's the silence that we all struggle with immensely. We never stop talking.
"Good morning," she said. I smiled.
"Is a contradiction of terms!" I said adding an ending to a phrase that hardly anyone ever means. George had walked in now and was setting his belongings on the table. We both smiled at him. He nodded simply in return. George was tall. To us at least. He was shorter than most of the other guys here. A mere 5'11", while the other guys stood at anywhere from 6'1" to 6'5". They knew there were much larger than most 14 year old boys, but it didn't bother them.
An unwelcome thought entered my mind now. What if we have to go to the high school today? To weld? I can't stand this class! I sighed as the Ag teacher Mr. McElroy walked in.
"Class," he had a southeren twang in his tone that was stronger than most people's down here, "We can't go to the high school. The risk of electrical shock is much too high." There was a collective sigh of releif around the room. No one wanted to walk through the 52 degree weather with pouring rain. Februray had just come, and I'd just turned 14. The world seemed much different than it had exactly one year ago. The day when my friends and I discovered a major secret of ourselves. One that must ever be shared.
So what do you think? And if you want me to post more of the story as I write it, just let me know and I will. And if it's just a couple of people I will just send a personal message to them of the next part. ;D
